Private bus operators have not yet been given permits to operate between Colombo and Jaffna along the A9 route. Private Bus Owners Association President, Gemunu Wijeratne told Daily Mirror online said that there were some reports of private buses operating along the route illegally

The Central Transport Board meanwhile said state buses will be traveling along the route during the day as well as night from tomorrow.

CTB General Manager B.A. Livinis, speaking to Daily Mirror online, said that the A9 road was opened for transport and there were no hindrances preventing them from operating along the route 24 hours a day.

The Jaffna to Colombo buses were earlier only departing in the morning while the Colombo to Jaffna buses operated during the night. But now the government has set up two booking stations in Jaffna and Colombo and buses will depart as soon as there are sufficient passengers, B.A. Livinis added.
