The leader of the United National Party and General Secretary Tissa Attanayake in their meeting with General Sarath Fonseka had discussed the Appeal on Human rights violation placed before the International Parliamentary Union.

Speaking to Daily Mirror online Attanayake stated, “We discussed our complaint lodged with the International Parliamentary Union against the arbitrary detention of the General. We also discussed the report that was submitted by a member of the union after visiting the court hearings.”

When asked as to the reason for the sudden visit and if it had any relevance to the turmoil within the UNP Attanayake stated, “We did not talk any politics. Our Leader normally visits the General twice a month and he couldn’t do this due to other matters. So we visited him as part of our routine visits. We didn’t speak about anything pertaining to politics with the General.” (FM)
