More than 200,000 flood victims living in camps have lost their national identity cards due to the recent floods and will not be able to participate in the upcoming local government elections, the UNP said today.

UNP MP P. Harrison said that flood victims had lost all their possessions due to the floods and do not have the necessary means to participate in the March 17 Local Government elections.

He said that most flood victims had lost all their relevant documents and do not have the means to apply for new national identity cards. “We need to seek methods of making arrangements to provide new identity cards for the flood victims,” he said. (OJ)
