No HR violations - Mahanayaka

Mahanayaka of the Asgiri Chapter Ven. Udugama  Sri Buddharakkitha Thero said unlike countries waging wars to protect their interests worldwide, the Sri Lankan government initiated a humanitarian operation to safeguard the people of the country and claims that these operations violated Human rights cannot be accepted.

The Ven. Mahanayaka added “When a terrorist organization is massacring people of the country a responsible government cannot stay inactive. The Sri Lankan government took step like any other government would to control these violent elements”.

He further added that under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa the armed forces and the police were able to carry out their duties to protect the country and its people.
  
The government never troubled the innocent Tamil civilians during this Humanitarian Operations, the Venerable Thero added

In conclusion the Mahanayaka of the Asgiri Chapter noted that under prevailing situation in the country attempts by Western Powers to continuously discredit Sri Lanka cannot be approved. (Daily Mirror online)
