The reports about Lasith Malinga retiring from Test cricket are “premature” and the star fast bowler has “not yet taken a firm decision” on the matter, according to Malinga’s agent Charlie Austin.

“I think he had been misunderstood. It is certainly something he is thinking about. But he needs to think more about it” Austin told “Daily Mirror” today.

Several media reports claimed that Malinga had announced his retirement from tests after the World Cup, following the bowler addressing a press briefing on the forthcoming World Cup at the Sri Lanka Cricket headquarters on Friday.

“His knees are much better now. But it takes toll on him when he bowls long spells like he did against India. After playing that series he needed more than two months to recover. So he is thinking again about continuing to play Tests. But he has to talk to his physio, doctors, captain and various other people before taking a firm decision” explained Austin.

He added that the player is likely to issue a media release shortly clarifying the issue.
