UNP Puttalam District MP Range Bandara quashed rumours that he was joining the government after he met President Mahinda Rajapakse at Temple Trees today. He said the meeting was just to thank the President for medical assistance.

Speaking to Daily Mirror online, Bandara said that he met President Rajapakse only to thank him for the medical attention given after his alleged assault by fellow UNP candidate.

“My family and I had an informal chat with the President and we had tea. We did not discuss anything about me joining the government or any other political issue,” Bandara said.

When asked if he will consider joining the government if the UNP fails to address his issue over the attack, Bandara said he cannot comment on that immediately as the UNP Disciplinary Committee was investigating that incident. “It is only after they finish investigating will I make a comment,” Bandara said.
