No confidence motion against Speaker?

The United National Party (UNP) today said it would be compelled to bring a no confidence motion against Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa if he allows Parliament to take up 21 Bills which the government is hurriedly attempting to get approved.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said none of these Bills could be taken up for debate as they have not been tabled in the House as per the standing orders. The copies of the Bills have been delivered to the residences of MPs, around midnight last Friday. Mr. Attanayake said this could not be considered as having been tabled in Parliament.

“We will have to bring in a no confidence motion against the Speaker if he allows the house to take up these Bills,” he said. (YohanPerera)
