The Sri Dalada Maligawa Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela, whose term of office ended today was appointed as its acting Diyawadana Nilame with effect from tomorrow (1) until the election of the next Diyawadana Nilame.

Buddhist Affairs Commissioner General Chandraprema Gamage made the appointment under the powers vested in him.

Speaking to Daily Mirror, the Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela said the appointment had been made with the consent of the two Mahanayake Theras of the Asgiriya and Malwatta Chapters.
