The name of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s (SLFP) youth wing has been changed into ‘Nidahas Tharuna Peramuna’ from its earlier name ‘Nil Balakaya’.


Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa functioned as the President of the youth movement when it was known as Nil Balakaya. Mr. Rajapaksa will not hold a position in the new youth wing.


Kurunegala District MP Shantha Bandara has been appointed as the youth wing’s new President and Kandy District MP Eric Prasanna Weerawardena has been appointed as the Secretary.


 “The party central committee, which met a few days ago made the new appointments. Only two office bearers were appointed. The organisation remains the same and only the title was changed into ‘Nidahas Tharuna Peramuna’,” MP Weerawardena said. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
