A green anaconda housed at the Dehiwela National Zoological Gardens gave birth to 23 healthy baby anacondas last night. The last time the Anaconda gave birth was two years ago but the babies died of a bacterial infection.

Green Anacondas are known to grow to more than 8 meters, weigh more than 230 kilograms and measure more than 25 centimeters in diameter.

The females of the species are known to be significantly larger than the males. The anaconda pair in Sri Lanka was gifted to the Dehiwela Zoo by the Czech Republic.
