Navy medical specialists will monitor the health condition of General Sarath Fonseka daily, Military Spokesperson Major General Prasad Samarasingha told Daily Mirror online in response to concerns raised by the General’s wife.

When questioned about the detained General’s health, the Military Spokesperson said that the former Army Commander was in good health. “As per the doctors, his health is very good. We will have a navy doctor checking him everyday,” Major General Samarsingha said.

Former Sri Lanka Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka's wife, Anoma Fonseka has in writing requested Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya to intervene to secure the necessary specialist medical care required by her husband.

Anoma has stated in the letter dated March 31, 2010 that she was increasingly concerned about General Fonseka's deteriorating health condition and has sought the Army Commander's intervention taking into consideration the "selfless service" rendered by the General to the Army and the country.
