Sri Lanka Navy intercepted five fishing trawlers carrying 34 Indian fishermen while poaching in the Delft Island seas this morning.

They were brought to the Delft anchorage by the Northern Naval Command. In another separate incident Navy arrested 19 Indian fishermen along with four trawlers when they were fishing in the seas off Talaimannar.

Sri Lanka Navy said it continued to conduct routine patrols to protect Lankan waters from poachers who also damaged fisheries resources as well. (Supun Dias)
