Nature gone wild; Three killed

Three people had been killed during the last few days due to inclement weather and related incidents, the Disaster Management Centre said today.

One drowned in Tangalle, while another person had died in the same district after being attacked by a wild-elephant.  

Lightening had killed another in Jaffna according to DMC.

Meanwhile, people in Moneragala had been hit by two different natural disasters, namely the drought and high winds.

Accordingly 53,512 families have been affected by the drought while another 14 families have been affected by high winds.

The situation was same in the Trincomalle District where 36,882 families have been affected by drought and 62 families have been affected by high winds.

In the meantime 85 families in Ratmalana in Colombo had been affected due to coastal erosion.

The Department of Meteorology predicted rains in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western Provinces and also in the Galle District in the coming days.

Moderate showers have been recorded in the areas which were hit by the drought including the North Western Province last morning. (Yohan Perera)
