National Green Reporting System to be established

In a bid to strengthen the steps taken to protect the environment, the government has decided to establish a National Green Reporting System (NGRS) in Sri Lanka with the main focus on minimising the carbon emission.
 
Acting cabinet spokesman, Environment Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said the objective of the establishment of the NGRS is to facilitate the manufacturing and service sectors to periodically measure and report their sustainability performance with regard to economic, environmental and social aspects in order to continually improve their production processes and services, relationship with stakeholders and enhance their image while contributing towards the sustainable development of the country.
 
A Governing Council with the participation of representatives of government entities responsible for policy guidelines for Sri Lanka manufacturing and services sectors will be set up, Minister Yapa said.
 
The cabinet gave the approval to the memo submitted by Minister Yapa in this regard. (Sandun A. Jaysekera)
