The leader of the National Movement for Social Justice (NMSJ) Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera, who pioneered the campaign for the election of candidates with better qualities, today said that a national government should be formed even for a brief period to make political reforms and stable national policies.

The Prelate requested the new government to only appoint qualified people as Ministries and to other government sector positions and advised it to rule the country refraining from the four-fold impediments (Sathara Agathiya).

The Thera said the Monday’s election was one of the most peaceful elections held in the recent history in the country without any major violent incidents and misuse of State properties.

While claiming that the influence of the 19th Amendment to create Independent Commissions had paved the way for the conduct of a free and fair election, the Thera said that a new Constitution was needed for the betterment of the country. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
