A Sri Lankan arriving from Thailand was arrested by the Airport police Narcotics Bureau last morning for trying to smuggle rare species of live birds and mice, Customs Director and media spokesman Leslie Gamini said.

Ten bird species including four pigeons and four species of ash and brown coloured mice were found hidden in the suspect’s baggage.

After investigations are carried out by the customs the birds and rat species are to be handed over to the Colombo zoo, he further said. (Chaturanga Pradeep-DM Online)
