UNP Mayoral candidate for Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) A. J. M. Muzamil today expressed confidence in capturing the council at the coming local government election despite the challenges faced by the party.

Mr. Muzamil told a news conference that he was chosen as the mayoral candidate by the nomination board appointed by the party nomination board which the compassed party leader, two deputy leaders, the national organiser and General Secretary and has the backing of all of them.

Responding to a question raised by the journalists about the suggestion made by some sections of the party to filed former minister Imitiyaz Bakeer Markar as the Mayoral candidate, he said there was no issue with that proposal as any one in the party has the right to make any proposal. However he said Mr. Bakeer Markar did not express his desire to contest at any time.

“There may be different views among party men but we will march towards victory together,” he said. (YP)
