Mulleriyawa shooting, fourth victim dies

The fourth victim, who was seriously injured during the shootout between two groups involving Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and Parliamentarian Duminda Silva, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Colombo National Hospital this morning.

He was identified as Manimel Kumarassamy who was a resident of the Maththumagala area in Ragama.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is currently investigating the incident. However so far no arrests have been made and the area still remains tense, as the funeral of former Parliamentarian and Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra is to be held on Wednesday at the Umagiliya Grounds in Kolonnawa. 

The two other victims were identified as Damitha Jayasekara (45) and Mohammed Aseem (32) both residents of Kollonnawa. Two police constables including one from the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) and a civilian are currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.

A team from the Government Analyst’s Department visited the scene and carried out investigations on Saturday evening. (Supun Dias)
