Mubarak sentenced for life

Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty of the charges against him regarding the role he played in quelling the mass protests in Tahrir square last year.

The 84-year-was convicted after a 10-month trial in a special court in Cairo. Mubarak is the first former leader to be tried in person since the start of the Arab Spring in early 2011.

The judge suspended the session after shouts erupted in the courtroom as the verdict was being read out the BBC said.
