MSD officers sans weapons tomorrow: UNP MPs

Several UNP Parliamentarians have raised a privilege issue in Parliament regarding a directive from the Police Chief to their personal security officers of the Ministerial Security Division barring them from carrying personal weapons tomorrow.

UNP Kurunegala District MP Dayasiri Jayasekera who raised this matter in Parliament initially said the privilege for security has been breached by this move.  

He said all MPs are entitled to use their personal weapons and to seek the services of their personal securities.

UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa who expressed similar sentiments questioned as to who gave orders to deny security of UNP MPs.

MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara questioned as to whether this decision was made targeting the UNP convention which is expected to be held tomorrow.
He said the security of party headquarters Sirikotha had been beefed up as well.

In addition MPs Harin Fernando, Sujeewa Senasinghe, Budddika Pathirana, and Rosy Senanayake also said their parliamentary privileges were breached because of this move.(YP & KB)
