MS to be nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

President Maithripala Sirisena is to be nominated for the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize, a government minister informed Parliament today.

Tourism and Christian Affairs Minister John Amaratunga who was speaking during the second reading debate in the House said many countries were currently discussing the nomination of President Sirisena for the Nobel Peace Prize for his initiative to form a joint government made up of two main political parties in the country.

"We can all go and witness President Sirisena accepting the Nobel Peace Prize if we work together for the betterment of the country," he told opposition MPs

The minister said opposition members should support the Budget if they want to secure their MPs posts. Citing reasons for it he said each MP will get Rs1.5 million from the decentralized Budget. (Yohan Perera)
