Video: MR should vacate immediately: JVP

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today said if the incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa was defeated at the election in January, he would have to vacate the office right after the results were announced.

JVP MP Tilvin Silva said the government was spreading the news that President Rajapaksa can hold the office for two more years though he was defeated.

“This is an utter lie. He can’t stay a minute longer in the office if he was defeated. The constitution has made sure of that,” he said.

He said the government had fabricated this story to encourage those who have pasted posters and cutouts for the President because they were uncertain about the victory of President Rajapaksa.
