In yet another move to crackdown on pornographic material in the country, the Juvenile Court today ordered a ban on 107 porn websites and local movies with adult content, officials said.

The Police Women and Children’s Bureau submitted a report to the Juvenile Court in Battaramulla today seeking a ban on 107 porn websites and local movies which depict local actors and actresses involved in obscene scenes, sources at the Bureau told Daily Mirror online.

“These websites and movies needed to be banned  which is why we submitted a report to the Battaramulla Juvenile court today,” sources added.

The court ordered the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) to ban the websites immediately.

The government last year proposed a ban on all movies that are labeled as 'Adults only' and added that regulations on programmes and publications that include obscene scenes should be toughened.

The government also said that approval of the Public Performance Board for advertisements on TV, radio and newspapers would be made compulsory and such a decision was taken to stop advertisements created without any standards which were unhealthy for the society especially for small children.

Meanwhile the Police Women and Children’s Bureau last week also submitted a list of pornographic websites to the Juvenile Court in Battaramulla as part of the initial step to ban access to porn websites via mobile phones. (Daily Mirror online)
