The External Affairs Ministry today said it was discussing with Sri Lankan Airlines to bring back Lankans who are willing to return home from Japan.

Of the 20,000 Sri Lankans living in Japan some have called the External Affairs Ministry and the Sri Lankan Embassy in Japan expressing their willingness to get back home, External Affairs Ministry Additional Secretary Ranjith Uyangoda said.

A number of Sri Lankans have also made requests to make arrangements to get back their family members from Japan due to the threat of earthquake aftershocks and nuclear effects resulting from the 9.0 magnitude earthquake.

Meanwhile rescue missions offered to the Japanese government by the government of Sri Lanka are yet to be deployed, as logistical issues are being sorted out. (Dianne Silva)
