Move to arrest Judge Warawewa: Ranil

Opposition UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe today alleged that there was a move to arrest  retired High Court Judge W.T.M.P.B. Warawewa soon. Addressing an election rally in Kantale Mr. Wickremesinghe said Mr. Warawewa was to be taken in by the CID on a statement he had made on the education sector in the country.

Mr. Wickremesinghe said he appointed Warawewa to head a committee to study and prepare a national education charter and the latter had made some remarks on the education sector at one of the meetings held at the Parliamentary complex organised by the joint opposition.

“ Is it a crime to work for the betterment of the education sector irrespective of politics?,” he asked.

Referring to the government’s pledge to make members of the civil defence force permanent, Mr. Wickremesinghe said the UNP first made this suggestion in 2008 and the UPFA government turned a blind eye on it. “ The government was making false promises now just to attract votes,” he added.
