At least three international flights scheduled to arrive and depart at the Katuanayaka International airport were cancelled this morning as a result of the volcanic ash in the air over Europe.

Airport sources said that two flights scheduled to depart Colombo this morning were cancelled while one scheduled to arrive in the country was also cancelled.

Several international flights had been cancelled worldwide since last week as ash from the volcano in Iceland began to pose a threat to the planes over the air in Europe. (Daily Mirror online)
