Monitor cards for trees

The Central Environment Authority (CEA) has set up a computer data base to monitor the maintenance and the growth of the 1.5 million trees planted on November 15, Chairman Dr. Charitha Herath said.

“Firstly, every tree planted was given a tree growth record card to monitor and record the growth of the tree. The particulars of the tree are downloaded to a data base and regular records of the growth of the tree, manure used, disease, flowering and the bearing of fruits are regularly recorded,” which is the unique to this campaign, Dr. Herath said.

He said the Environment Ministry expects to carry out the tree planting programme annually as a national event. (SAJ)
