A 39 year old mother from the area of Kelaniya had attempted to poison her three children between the ages 15, 11 and 6, before consuming the poison herself, police sources say.
According to reports, the mother and her three children had been taken to the Narahenpita hospital for treatment once it was made clear that a poisonous substance was in their systems.
Police investigation had later revealed that it was the mother that had administered the poison to her children before taking some herself.
The reason behind the attempted poisoning, that took place last evening, has not yet been uncovered.
