Mobile prostitution ring nabbed using underage girl

Two persons including an underage girl who were alleged to be involved in a mobile prostitution ring had been arrested in the Kollupitiya area. When the main suspect who had allegedly operated the ring and procured an underage girl for prostitution was produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate, he was ordered to be remanded till September 22. Meanwhile, Magistrate Ms. Lanka Jayaratne further ordered that the 17-year-old girl who was allegedly involved in the ring be held in the Salvation Army headquarters in Colombo till September 22.

The Kollupitiya police told court that the main suspect who operated the ring had charged Rs.2,000 from the decoy who carried out the raid and the underage girl had been given to him on Marine Drive in Kollupitiya.

Subsequently, the Kollupitiya anti-vice-squad had arrested the two suspects who were allegedly involved in the racket and the vehicle alleged to have been used for the operation was also taken into police custody.

Meanwhile, police further charged that the main suspect S. G. Nihal Karunatilleke of Polonnaruwa had presented a forged driving license to the police and further alleged that he had committed another punishable offence.

Further magisterial inquiry has been fixed for September 22. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
