The Children’s Court in Colombo today ordered the Police Women and Child’s bureau to seek the assistance of mobile phone companies on how porn sites accessed via mobile phones can be restricted or blocked.

Sources at the Women and Child’s bureau told Daily Mirror online that the order was based on a complaint lodged by a parent that his child was able to access porn sites via the mobile phone including sites banned by the government on the internet in Sri Lanka.

The Court was informed by the Police Women and Child’s bureau that at least 40 porn sites could be accessed via mobile phones and access to these sites needs to be restricted. The Police Women and Child’s bureau had earlier written to the Telecom Regulatory Commission (TRC) seeking a ban on access to porn web sites via the mobile phone but the TRC needed an order from the government or Court.

As a result the Police Women and Child’s bureau took up the issue with the Chilren’s Court and the Court is likely to issue an order banning access to the sites based on the recommendations of mobile companies once a solution is reached. (Daily Mirror online)
