The US embassy yesterday declined to comment  the basis on which Malaka Silva the son of Minister Mervyn Silva is to be granted a visa to the United States.

A spokesman for the embassy said that they could not comment on individual Visa issues.

“We can’t discuss individual visa cases. All visa cases are confidential under the immigration and nationality act” he said.

When the Daily Mirror questioned as to if the embassy would provide Visas to individuals who have been convicted or have pending criminal charges against them, the spokesman said that the process is complicated.

“It’s actually quite complicated it’s the act the guides visa decision it has a lot of allowances or prohibition not a simple yes or no answer" he said.

The Lawyer of Malaka Silva yesterday in a motion filed at the Colombo Magistrate court said that they had mistakenly informed court that Malaka Silva will visit the United States for education purposes. The lawyer informed court that the purpose of the visit was a holiday.
