Minuwangoda UPFA urban councillor found dead

The body of a Minuwangoda UPFA urban councillor, Dinesh Chandrasiri Silva was found under a bridge in the Diyagampola area in Kotadeniyawa last night. According to the police his death remains mysterious.

Police have received information that his killing was planned and his body was placed under the bridge after killing him at another place in the area to cover up for it as being a death caused due to an accident.

A number of injuries were detected on his body. His motorbike was found near his body and was still running at the time the body was found by the police. His mobile phone, helmet and pair of slippers were found in three different places, which further led to suspicion over his death.

He had been a bodyguard to parliamentarian Upeksha Swarnamali and following her win he had contested for the Minuwangoda Urban Council. He emerged victorious by obtaining a large number of preferential votes.

The victim was a resident of Divulgas Junction in Madawala and was a father of two. With the death being a mysterious one, investigations are being conducted by a number of special police teams that have been deployed in to the area.

The 28 year old victim is believed to have been a close associate of underworld leader Asitha, who was killed in prison he was also a suspect in connection with death of a woman who was the mother of another leading underworld figure called Dhammika.

The magisterial inquiry was conducted today by the Minuwangoda Additional Magistrate. (Pushpakumara Mallawarachchi)
