Alleged corrupt deals of 20 ministers of previous regime

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) led Voice Against Corruption (VAC) is to lodge complaints with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against 20 ministers and officials of the previous regime on Thursday.


Convener VAC Wasantha Samarasinghe told Daily Mirror that they will actually handover files which contains corrupt deals of 20 ministers and high officials of the previous regime on February 5


Mr. Samarasinghe said they have to go through every details on the information they have received on the allegations to determine their accuracy.


Earlier VAC said it had received 2000 complaints regarding corrupt deals carried out by the powerful persons in the previous regime worth an unprecedented amount of Rs 1,300 billion ( Rs. 130,000 million) .


Mr Samarasinghe said there are complaints against the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and several ministers.


Coming up with some of these complaints he said they have received information on how the wife of a monitoring MP of the previous government had purchased shares in a company in Singapore.


He said they have also received a copy of an email sent to a Cabinet minister of the previous regime saying that a sum of US dollars 25 million had been deposited to his account as the agreed commission for a deal. (Yohan Perera)
