Police said UPFA Pradeshiya Sabha member L.H. Dharmasiri who had reportedly fled  Kahawatta with his family, after his brother was arrested in connection with the killing of a mother and daughter, was not being investigated but his statement might be recorded.

They said it would depend on the investigations.

“Three of the wanted suspects are in custody,” police spokesman Ajith Rohana said and rejected claims that the delay in arresting the suspects was because of political interference.

He said the CID would not allow political influence to interfere with its investigations into a murder.

“The arrest of the three suspects took a while because of the delay in gathering the necessary evidence. Investigations into incidents of this nature take time to be wound up because of the complex and mysterious nature of the crime. Delaying of investigations has nothing to do with political pressure or interference,” he said. (Supun Dias)
