Armed forces personnel manning several main checkpoints in the Colombo City have been withdrawn with effect from today and replaced by the Police, Army Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya said.

“Troops in eleven checkpoints located within the Colombo City limit have been withdrawn and the checkpoints were handed over to the police, as the security situation in Colombo has tremendously improved,” the spokesman said.

He also said steps would be taken to completely withdraw troops from all remaining check points in the City soon.
