The Military Police (MP) has arrested 32 officers and 8,400 other rankers who did not report for duty and failed to appear during amnesty periods, Military Spokesman Major General Ubaya Medawala said.

“Disciplinary action will be taken against them as they failed to report to their respective regiments”, he added.

“As they failed to take the opportunity to surrender they had to be subsequently traced down and arrested by the Military Police”, he said. However the MP is on the look out for 40,000 deserters. (Supun Dias)
