The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) today stressed that there was no necessity to allow male nurses in labor rooms as female patients felt uncomfortable and that the patients should have the ability to choose whether or not to allow male nurses.

The GMOA added that 95% of the nursing staff in Sri Lanka was female and that whether male nurses should attend female patients is questionable and should be left for the patients to decide.

Nurses in Kurunagala held a protest recently calling the authorities to allow male nurses into labor rooms. A protest against these unreasonable demands will me organized by the doctors and minor staff of the Kurunagala hospital, the GMOA officials said. (Daily Mirror online)
