Public Relations Minister Mervyn Silva appeared before a three member disciplinary panel headed by senior lawyer Champani Padmasekara of the SLFP at the party headquarters in Colombo a short while ago to answer allegations against him, informed sources said.

The SLFP central committee earlier announced that it would hold a disciplinary inquiry against Minister Silva for his statement saying asserting that hat no one could touch him while President Mahinda Rajapaksa was in power as well as the complaints levelled against him by Kelaniya SLFP Pradeshiya Sabha members.

Soon after, Minister Mervyn Silva said that he is ready to face any inquiry held against him as he has done no wrong. “I’m ready to face any inquiry against me because i know I haven’t done anything wrong. What I said was that I trust that the President would not take any decision that would cause injustice. That is true,I know that the President would not take decisions that would be wrong or prejudicial, that’s the trust I have placed in him” he said.

However, Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa last week said that Minister Silva could be removed from the post of Kelaniya electoral organizer only by the leader of the party President Mahinda Rajapaksa and not by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party or the Central Committee. (SAJ)
