The much talked of mega tele-series based on the life of Buddha was launched on the auspicious day of Buddha Poornima (Vesak), the Times of India reported yesterday.

The tele-series produced by Spice studios had specifically booked Vesak Day for the launch of this TV show.

The film which is expected to be one of its kind, was launched amid several film makers having attempted to recreate the Buddha era.

Big names like Shekhar Kapur and Aushitosh Gowarikar have constantly been on the creative helm for this ambitious project.

While there are a lot of opinions expressed by the audience regarding the cast and crew of this series, their details have been kept under strict wraps as it's one of the high profile projects.

The series will be a biopic of one of the greatest Indian personalities ever -- the Buddha. It is based on historical facts and will tell the story of Prince Siddhartha and his dramatic transition into Buddha.

It doesn't end here; the makers of the TV show had built a grand set for the launch of the series, which takes place today at Film-city. A huge show was planned where live performances displaying the Amrapali dance form will welcome the launch of this much awaited tele-series.
