More medical leave for Duminda

Parliamentarian Duminda Silva was granted three months medical leave by parliament a short while ago.The leave beginning from June 24 has been granted for the third consecutive time.

Mr. Silva sustained serious injuries in a broad daylight shootout at Mulleriyawa in October last year. He was flown to Singapore for treatment. Former presidential advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and three others were killed in the shooting.

If an MP does not attend Parliament for more than three months at a stretch without approval, he or she ceases to be a member. The motion seeking leave was presented by Chief Government Whip Dinesh Gunawardane.

Mr. Silva was previously granted leave by Parliament on December 24 last year and on March 24.
