Matale bones to the US for dating

The Matale Magistrate’s Court has ordered Kurunegala Teaching Hospital JMO Dr. Ajith  Jayasena to hand over the  human skeletal remains found from the Matale mass grave to the CID  to be sent to the  Beata Analyiic  Archaeological Museum Laboratory  in Florida, America for dating analysis.

This order was given by Matale Magistrate and the Additional District Judge Sampath Gamage on Wednesday after considering the submissions made in court by the CID.

The CID informed the court that the Presidential Special Investigation Commission had decided to send  these skeletal remains to the  Beata Analyiic laboratory considering the possible delay expected at the Archaeological and Physics Laboratory of the Beijing University in China.

Earlier the Matale Magistrate’s Court ordered these skeleton remains to be sent to the Beijing University.

The Presidential Commission headed by retired Supreme Court Judge S.I. Imam comprises former  Parliament  Secretary General  Dammika Kithulgoda and retired Supreme Court Judge  A.L. B.K. Atapattu.

154 pieces human skeletal remains were found on November 26, 2012 during excavations done for the erection of a Bio Gas Unit  at the Matale  General Hospital premises. (M.W. Somarathna)
