Massive stock of gold seized

Airport Customs seized a stock of gold worth around Rs.27 million and also foreign currency worth nearly Rs.30 million this morning. A foreigner and two others were taken into custody for allegedly attempting to smuggle the seized items on a flight bound to Dubai, Airport Customs Director Parakrama Basnayake said.

The other two who were arrested were from the airport staff. They were involved in transporting the gold and cash secretly to the foreigner who was in the plane at the time of the incident, Mr. Basnayake said. (Supun Dias)
