United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera, who is in the midst of speculation about plans to join the government, had shelved his decision after the party assured to address his grievances, the Daily Mirror learns.

Amid rising speculation in political circles about such a crossover, UNP Parliamentarians such as Ravi Karunanayake, Eran Wickramaratne and Karu Jayasuriya met him during the past few days.

Mr. Samaraweera is reported to have had a spat with the party's Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa about the UNP stance on the Presidential Election.

"Mangala is upset because we are not doing what we have got to do. We tried to convince him to stay with us. There were some grievances but we undertook to sort them out. Now it is over. The situation is under control as of now," a UNP MP who wished to remain unnamed said.

Earlier, there was speculation that Mr. Samaraweera was planning to crossover after the Government offered him a Cabinet portfolio. (Kelum Bandara)
