The man who is staging a protest on top of a hoarding post near Horton Place is still refusing to divulge the actual motive for his protest or step down until President Mahinda Rajapakse or any other top government official meets him.

Speaking to journalists at the site of the protest through a mobile phone a short while ago, the protestor who identified himself as ‘Rohitha’ said that his wife gave lectures in the defence establishment at one time and was protesting in order to demand redress to some of his issues.

When further questioned, the protestor said he is prepared to commit suicide if the President or the government authorities fail to meet him and give him an assurance to address his concerns.

The protestor had climbed the hoarding post in the early hours of today morning and since then has been warning to commit suicide if the President does not arrive at the scene and speak to him personally.

Several attempts by the Fire Brigade Department to convince him to stop his protest have failed. (Daily Mirror online)
