A Maldivian woman and her six-year-old daughter have been missing since Friday in Sri Lanka, her family said Sunday.

A relative told Haveeru that Raashida Ahmed from Lhaviyani Atoll Naifaru, who has been living in the Sri Lankan city of Kandy for three years, went missing on Friday afternoon. Her husband called and said that Raashida had run away from home with their daughter due to a domestic conflict, the relative added.

“They’ve always had problems. Our sister wanted to get a divorce too, but he won’t allow her to do so,” the relative, who is living separately in Kandy, said.

The relative stressed that Raashida had not yet contacted any family members. It is unlikely that she would run away from home, the relative said.

The case has been filed with the Maldivian high commission in Colombo and the police.

The high commission and the Maldivian foreign ministry were not available for comment. (Haveeru Online)
