Video: Malaka further remanded

25 November 2014 09:39 am

Additional Fort Magistrate A.M. Sahabdeen re-remanded Minister Mervyn Silva’s son Malaka and six others till November 28 with a direction that they be produced at an identification parade on that date.

When the case was taken up for inquiry, the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) informed the Magistrate that it had noticed the two foreigners to be present for the identification parade. But even though the case was put off for the afternoon at their request, the foreigners were not present in Court.

At that stage the Counsel for Malaka and the other suspects requested that the identification parade fixed for yesterday be cancelled because the foreigners were absent again.

Counsel Avendra Rodrigo appearing for the foreigners said his clients had assured they would attend the identification parade but had not turned up for some unforeseen reason.

CCD ASP H.W. Chandrathilake told the Magistrate the two witnesses were not at their residence and did not know what had happened to them.

Malaka Silva, Ramesh Weeran Kulatunge, Oshadi Viskam Wimalaratne, M.D. Priyantha Upasena, Tharindu Lakshan Weerasekera, MSD Officers Sarath Wijesiri, Chamil Indika Fernando  were again remanded till November 28.

The Magistrate Shahabdeen said the Court should take into account the Malaka’s previous behaviour and act appropriately and fixed the identification parade for November 28

He directed the Prison Commissioner to file a report in court on the next date of the case as to why Malaka was taken to National Hospital while the court had ordered that he be taken to remand prison. (T. Farook Thajudeen & Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
