Minister Mervyn Silva’s son Malaka who is in remand custody on charges of having assaulted a foreign couple at a night club, was today further remanded till November 25 by Colombo Additional Magistrate A. M. Sahabdeen.

The identification parade which was to be held today was put off because the two foreigners were not present in Court; the identification parade was put off for November 25.

The Magistrate directed the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) to make sure that the foreigners were present in Court on that date or in their absence he would be compelled to cancel the identification parade.

Poloce informed the Court that the foreign woman was receiving treatment at a hospital in Colombo and as such was unable to attend today’s Court proceedings.

Meanwhile, the Magistrate directed the prison officials to transfer Malaka Silva from the General Hospital to the Welikada Prison and said in case Malaka needed further medical treatment, he could do so at the Prison Hospital.

Malaka was produced in Court when the case was taken up for inquiry today.

Meanwhile, six other suspects including two Ministerial Security Division officers were also produced in Court and remanded till November 25. (T. Farook Thajudeen)
