Several maids who made use of the amnesty period offered by Lebanon returned to the country today. These maids are among the Sri Lankans working in Lebanon without valid visas.

The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Lebanon M. Maharoof told Daily Mirror online that several Sri Lankans who made use of the amnesty period left for Sri Lanka yesterday after obtaining the required clearance from Sri Lankan Embassy in Lebanon.

The three month amnesty period was offered by Lebanon following a request put forward by Ambassador Maharoof in order to ensure hundreds of Sri Lankans who are in the country illegally return to Sri Lanka without facing any penalty. (Daily Mirror online)
