Sabaragamuwa Chief Minister Mahipala Herath said the UNP should hold its May Day rally in Jaffna but in the Donkey Island in close proximity.

“If they had taken such a decision they could have found a bigger ordinance and solved the problem of transporting supporters. I would like to propose Puttalam as the alternative venue for the UNP’s May Day rally,” the Chief Minister said addressing an event in Balangoda.

He also said the leader of one faction of the UNP Ranil Wickeremasighe announced that the UNP’s May Day rally would be held in Jaffna while the leaders of the rival faction Sajith Premadasa and Karu Jayasuriya were continually requesting party sympathizers to participate in the R. Premadasa commemoration in Colombo.

He said MPs Lakshman Kiriella and Ravi Karunanayake who undermined the security forces might expose themselves in Jaffna. They have forgotten that the patriotic leaders of the UNP including Lalith Athulathmudali, Gamini Dissayanake and Ranasingeh Premadasa were assassinated by the LTTE, he said.

He charged that UNP leaders were mere puppets and would come to Jaffna under a secret pact with the TNA.
