Mahabodhi Temple again open to the public

The government said yesterday that Sri Lankan pilgrims may now resume pilgrimages to the sacred Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya, India.

Issuing a statement, the High Commission of Sri Lanka in India, New Delhi stated, “The Mahabodhi Temple is now once again open to the public. Authorities of the Central Government of India and the state of Bihar, in consultation with the Temple Management Committee have established a security system that will provide for the safety and security of all pilgrims to the Mahabodhi Temple.”

At least two people were injured when ten low intensity blasts occurred inside the Mahabodhi on the morning of July 7.
